Event Day Transport
Public Transport
Runners are encouraged to plan ahead and catch public transport as major roads will be closed along and surrounding the course from early morning. Special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect on many roads along and around the course making street parking limited.
- Trains: Early morning services start running from 4.40am depending on the line. The closest stations to the start area at Cahill Expressway on Macquarie Street are Circular Quay, Wynyard and Martin Place, which are all within short walking distance.
- Metro: Martin Place metro station is within short walking distance of the start area – exit via Hunter St and continue on foot. Services start running from early morning every 10 minutes throughout the day.
- Buses: Plenty of buses make stops at Circular Quay, Martin Place and Wynyard, within short walking distance of the start area at Cahill Expressway on Macquarie Street. Keep in mind that some services will be affected by road closures and will divert, use different stops and/or terminate early. If you’re catching buses to or from the event, plan ahead to see to see if your route is affected.
- Light Rail: The closest stops to the start area are Bridge St and Circular Quay on the L2 and L3 light rail lines. Services run regularly from 5am.
- Ferries: Sydney Ferries will run to a regular Sunday timetable and services don’t start running until later in the morning. Catch early morning services on other transport modes when travelling to the event. After your race, you can catch a ferry home from Circular Quay, which is about a 20-minute walk from the finish line at The Domain Sydney.
You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

Planned trackwork is taking place across the network on event day; you may need to catch a replacement bus or change trains to complete your journey depending on where you are travelling from. Plan your trip using the Trip Planner and see the Runaway Sydney Half Marathon transport map to find your way from key city transport hubs to the start line.
- If you're travelling from the west: buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central until 7.30am. Change at Strathfield for express buses towards Central.
- If you're travelling from the north: trains run to Wynyard only. Walk to the start line from Wynyard (approx. 12 minutes) or change at Crows Nest or Chatswood from a metro service to Martin Place, extra metro services will run from 4am.
- If you're travelling from the south-west: buses replace trains between Macarthur, Glenfield and Fairfield on the T2, T5 and T8 lines.
Parking
Runners are reminded that parking in the city is limited on Sunday mornings. Road closures and clearways will be in place from as early as 1:00am making some car parks inaccessible and street parking limited. Check signs carefully as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.
If you have to drive, please familiarise yourself with road closures and clearways. Aim to arrive early to secure parking and allow extra travel time.
Limited parking is available at the following locations:
- Domain Car Park – St Mary’s Road Sydney – Open 24hrs – $14 (online booking) flat fee - $19 (Drive up) flat fee - (Access from Boomerang Pl/ Yorong Pkwy, left onto St Mary's Road). Height limit of 1.9m
- Enacon Car Park – Cathedral Street – Open 7am - $15 flat fee - (Access from Boomerang Pl/ Yorong Pkwy, left onto St Mary's Road, left onto Cathedral St). Height limit of 2.1m
- 60 Elizabeth Street Car Park - Elizabeth Street, Sydney. Open 24hours, fees apply.
If your vehicle is over 2.1m in height, please find alternate parking on streets or use Public Transport to get to the event.
Special Event Clearways
Special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on various roads throughout the Sydney CBD, The Domain, Circular Quay, The Rocks, Millers Point and Pyrmont between 1am and 12.30pm on Sunday 4 May for the event.
These clearways are in place to clear the course of vehicles for participant safety and to also increase road capacity.
Remember, special event clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types, and apply even to local residents and TfNSW Mobility Scheme Permit Holders. Look for the bright yellow signs and check them carefully on the day and the night before as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies. If your vehicle is towed, you can search your vehicle registration at the Find My Car website to find its new location or alternatively call 132 701 to speak to an operator.
