Thousands To Hit The Streets This Sunday For HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon
Runners from across Australia and around the world will descend on Sydney this Sunday for the HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, one of Australia’s largest half marathons.
More than 12,000 runners will take on either the half marathon or 10km event, with 2023 marking the debut of the 10km.
The event will start on Macquarie Street, with runners making their way around the harbour foreshore, taking in the best of Sydney, before finishing alongside Hyde Park.
Previously known as The Sydney Morning Herald Half Marathon, the event has been a part of the country’s running calendar since 1992 and will celebrate its 30th running this weekend.
Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Oceania for The IRONMAN Group, organisers of the HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, said that the team was looking forward to welcoming runners back to the event this Sunday.
“We can’t wait to see more than 12,000 runners on the start line this Sunday for the return of this much-loved event,” said Meyer. “Over the last 29 years this event has become a firm favourite for Sydney runners and we look forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary this weekend with a new course and a new 10km option, which will allow more runners than ever before the be involved and be a part of the fun.
“The HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon takes in some of Sydney’s most iconic spots, winding its way around the harbour and through Pyrmont, with runners heading along the Cahill Expressway and through the Royal Botanical Gardens before crossing the finish line,” he said. “The event is set to be the one of the largest half marathons in the country this year and we look forward to welcoming runners of all ages and abilities to the streets of Sydney.”
The HOKA Runaway Sydney Half Marathon joins three incredible destination running events across Australia and New Zealand as part of the Runaway Marathon Series. The Runaway Marathon Series takes runners to Queenstown and Hawke’s Bay in New Zealand and Noosa in Queensland, all destinations where natural beauty, world class running, local hospitality and food and wine options make for so much more than just another running event.
